In this period the sport’s world is showing its best traits, helping were possible in the battle against the Covid-19, even if sometimes there is someone who seems not to understand the situation. It is the case of Helmut Markus, Red Bull motorsport boss. Yesterday Austrian television ORF released an interview where he exposed his idea to create a camp for the Red Bull’s drivers with the aim to simplify their infection. The project is to infect the drivers, “all strong young men in good health” as he said, in order to inoculate them and reinforce their physical well being to arrive in perfect conditions at start of the season.
Already during the interview, recognizing the uproar created by his words, the Austrian ex driver tried to reassess, saying: “We have four Formula 1 drivers and eight or 10 juniors, and the idea was that we would organise a camp to mentally and physically bridge the dead time.” Markus explains: “If there is a racing season with 15 to 18 races, it will be very, very tough. There is no possibility to improve your fitness during the season. So it’s actually ideal to use this time now.”. Indeed the next season is full of races without breaks with the drivers under more pressure than previous years, but this seems not to justify the comments of the motorsport boss.
Meanwhile the interview made the world tour, creating embarrassment and shame around the bulls’ stable, the teams’management officially made it know that they have refused the Markus’ proposal, instead they continue to be active in the battle against the Covid-19, in collaboration with the other F1 teams, increasing the production of ventilators destined to the patients in the worst conditions
During the interview the motorsport boss exposed the Formula 1 economical loss, calculated at around $200-300 million that could be crucial for the survival of some Formula 1 stables, which were already in economic difficulty before the virus.
Its not yet time to return at the normal life, ignoring the problem. Human life is most important thing and it is incomparable with a F1 championship.
